Namaste Farm.

We raise happy and healthy birds that are free of diseases. We are National Poultry Improvement Program (NPIP) certified and our flock goes through routine health checks.

Chicken: Ameraucana

Ameraucana chickens are a general purpose bird that are known for their beautiful blue egg shells. They are a medium size chicken with pea combs, small to absent wattles and beautiful ear muffs and beards that should nearly cover the face. They are often confused with Americana chickens or Easter egger chickens who lay a variety of egg colors; however, true Ameraucana hens only lay blue eggs, no green, pink or brown. There are only a few standard colors of Ameraucanas that are recognized by the parent club. We raise black, blue and splash Ameraucanas here. We do sometimes have chicks and hatching eggs for sale, especially in the spring.

Chicken: Black Copper Maran

Black Copper Marans are a dual purpose bird that originated in France. Although Marans are an excellent meat bird, their outstanding and unique attribute is the shell color of the plentiful eggs that they lay. Marans lay an egg that has a shell the color of chocolate. And when cracked open, the yolk is bright orange. While a typical store-bought egg has a yolk that is runny and flaccid, the free-range Marans produce yolks that have ‘muscle tone;’ little orange domes that jut skyward from the egg white. Marans have the reputation for laying the best-tasting chicken egg in the world. (Perhaps, for these reasons, the author Ian Fleming identified Marans eggs as those most preferred by James Bond.) We do occasionally have chicks and hatching eggs for sale, especially in the spring.

Guinea Fowl

Guinea fowl are a fun addition to the birds here. Guineas are a domesticated version of an African wild bird. They are full of personality and spend their days marching around the farm, keeping an eye on all the animals, visitors and us! They have a unique job here, guineas are known to eat insects, especially ticks. When we first moved here we would find 5-6 ticks on us each day as we were out working on the fence but now we might only find one or two in a season. They are also excellent watchdogs, sounding the alarm at anything that changes in their environment. The eggs are excellent to eat when we can find them, the birds free range over our farm and our neighbors so it can be a bit of an egg hunt. We have a variety of colors from the traditional pearl colored to white, lavender and royal purple. We occasionally have keets (baby guineas) for sale.
