Border collies aren’t the only breed we have in our house. Rhys, our 5-year-old
Chinese Crested, is a special
breed we love, only partly because he obviously doesn’t shed. His registered name is Autumn Grace Blue Moon Rising.
We bought him as a puppy when we were still building our farm house. He is the kind of happy, funny little dog who
wants to always be the life and fashion leader of the household.
On the weekend of June 12 -14, Rhys got to compete at an AKC
Fast CAT (Coursing Ability Test), which is, essentially
a 100 yard dash for dogs, chasing a lure. The trial, put on by Dogwood Rotweiler Club of Metropolitan Atlanta, took
place locally in Greenback. Rhys loves two things about the sport - running super fast and tackling me at the end!
We had a very successful weekend. He won his first title and started working on his second. He is currently the third
fastest Chinese Crested in history to do Fast CAT, with a time of 24.39 mph. How fast is that? He’s not quite as fast
as legendary Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt, whose time was almost 28 mph, but then his legs are a lot shorter. We hope
to compete next year and become the fastest Chinese Crested ever.
